A word about information privacy

(not to be confused with "a word from our sponsor". We don't have those yet.)

In case you haven't noticed by now, this blog is about surgery. Surgery involves many different people, including patients-patients who are human beings with rights and feelings...and lawyers.

To ensure that I am respecting the legal rights and privacy of my patients and others, all names mentioned in my blog posts have been changed. At all times, I will refrain from disclosing the gender, ethnicity or any other identifying characteristics of patients. That being said,  you are smart people (with excellent taste in blogs I might add ) and I'm pretty damn sure you can guess that if I'm writing about hysterectomies, there's a 99% chance I'm talking about a chick. Same goes for penises (Yup, I just said penises. This is a medical blog. Get used to it.)

While I enjoy sharing the wonderful world of surgery with you, under no circumstances do I wish to unleash the ungodly wrath of HIPAA enforcement or any other big, scary regulatory agency (*cough* Joint Commission *cough*). Furthermore, my main concern personally and professionally is for the health, respect, and safety of the patients I serve.

If you want to know more about HIPAA, follow the link below. Otherwise, feel free to click back to the stories about blood and guts.
